What is a Site?
A Site is an environment you already operate and choose to make available through Bstrapr. It is the unit used to organize collaborator access.
A Site is your environment
A Site can represent a virtual machine, VPS, physical server, office machine, or designated laptop or desktop. It can run in a public cloud, in your own facility, or wherever your team operates it. Bstrapr does not replace your provider or require you to move the environment.
Why Sites are the access boundary
Instead of giving a collaborator broad access to an entire cloud account or network, you assign access to the specific Sites needed for the engagement. This makes the decision visible and reversible.
- The owner keeps control of the underlying environment
- A person can have access to one Site and not another
- Client and project environments can remain separated
- Access can be revoked without deleting or rebuilding the Site
Site versus connected machine
A Site is the customer-facing access boundary. Connected machines are the devices enrolled or associated with that Site. Pricing and access decisions emphasize Sites because that is the environment boundary people need to understand.
A provider-agnostic model
The Site concept is intentionally independent of a particular cloud provider. Public cloud, on-premises, and personal machines can participate in the same connect → invite → grant → revoke workflow.
